For 105 years, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has defined its central mission as seeking happiness for the Chinese people and realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. China's governing philosophy has consistently emphasized long-term national development, economic transformation and improvements in people's livelihoods. This enduring vision has become one of the defining characteristics of the CPC's governance.

The idea of national rejuvenation is rooted in China's historical experience. The country's leaders have frequently referred to the "century of humiliation," when foreign invasions, internal conflicts and economic decline weakened China. Since the founding of the CPC in 1921 and especially after the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, national renewal has been viewed not simply as economic modernization but as restoring China's sovereignty, dignity and ability to shape its own future.

One notable feature of CPC governance has been its emphasis on long-term planning. Unlike political systems where leadership priorities may change every electoral cycle, China has pursued development strategies spanning decades. From industrialization in the early years of the People's Republic to reform and opening-up beginning in 1978, and more recently to high-quality development driven by innovation, each phase has built upon the achievements of the previous one rather than abandoning them.

This continuity has enabled China to undertake ambitious projects requiring sustained investment. Such consistency has helped transform China into one of the world's largest economies and a global leader in sectors ranging from renewable energy to e-commerce.

The pursuit of happiness has likewise evolved. In earlier decades, the priority was ensuring that people had enough food, clothing and shelter. As living standards improved, the focus shifted toward better education, healthcare, environmental protection and social security. Today, happiness is increasingly understood as a broader concept encompassing not only material prosperity but also quality public services, cleaner cities, cultural confidence and opportunities for personal development.

A defining achievement in this journey has been China's campaign against absolute poverty. Under the leadership of Xi Jinping, poverty alleviation became a national priority supported by targeted policies, infrastructure investment and coordinated efforts across all levels of government. By eliminating extreme rural poverty according to China's official standard, the country improved the lives of hundreds of millions of people over several decades. Beyond the statistics, the campaign demonstrated the state's capacity to mobilize resources toward a clearly defined social objective.

The contribution of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era has further reinforced this developmental approach. The concept places people at the center of governance, arguing that development should ultimately improve citizens' well-being. It also emphasizes common prosperity, high-quality development, ecological civilization and innovation as essential components of China's modernization. Rather than pursuing growth at any cost, current policies increasingly seek a balance between economic expansion, environmental sustainability and social equity.

National rejuvenation has also acquired an international dimension. China's growing role in global trade, infrastructure connectivity and development cooperation reflects its aspiration to contribute to international development while advancing its own modernization. Many developing countries, particularly across Africa, view China's experience as evidence that sustained economic planning, infrastructure investment and poverty reduction can provide practical lessons for national development. China-Africa cooperation in transport, energy, industrial parks and vocational education illustrates how elements of China's development model are being adapted to local contexts rather than replicated wholesale.

The CPC's century-long pursuit of happiness and rejuvenation has not been without challenges. Managing a population of more than 1.4 billion people, addressing regional disparities, responding to demographic changes and sustaining economic growth amid an increasingly complex global environment require continuous policy innovation. The leadership has increasingly recognized that future success will depend on technological advancement, green development and deeper structural reforms.

As the CPC marks its 105th anniversary, its governing philosophy continues to revolve around a simple but ambitious objective: ensuring that development serves the people while strengthening the nation. Whether measured through rising living standards, expanding infrastructure, scientific progress or growing international engagement, the pursuit of people's happiness and national rejuvenation remains the guiding thread connecting the Party's past, present and future. It is this long-term strategic vision—rather than short-term political gains—that has become one of the most distinctive features of China's governance over the past century.
